WHAT IS A ROADWORTHY CERTIFICATE?
A Safety Certificate (also known as a
Roadworthy Certificate or RWC) checks the basic safety areas of your vehicle that could affect the safety and operation of the vehicle. It reduces the likelihood of accidents caused by defects.
WHEN DO I NEED A ROADWORTHY CERTIFICATE?
- Queensland Transport requires by law all registered light vehicles provide a roadworthy certificate the moment they are offered for sale. This includes formal listings, as well as informally displaying or driving the vehicle in public with a handwritten “For sale”, or “Want this?” sign. Fail to do so and you risk an on-the-spot fine of $560!
- When re-registering an unregistered vehicle.
- When transferring registration of a second-hand vehicle to a new owner.
- A vehicle registered in another state or territory must have a roadworthy certificate as part of the Queensland pre-registration process.
WHAT IS INCLUDED?
We will inspect the following;
- Tyres
- Brakes
- Suspension
- Oil leaks
- Seat belts
- Hand brake
- Windscreen
- Lights
- Steering
- Body rust or damage
If your vehicle passes inspection, our qualified mechanic will then issue a written certificate.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY VEHICLE DOESN’T PASS?
If your vehicle doesn’t immediately pass, Queensland Transport offers 14 days after the initial roadworthy certificate is issued to rectify any problems identified and have the vehicle re-inspected. We offer competitive prices and our trusted mechanics can fix any issues found at your convenience.
